Flushing Systems On The Hard Marine vessels are periodically hauled. If a vessel will be out of the water for more than a few days, special treatment of all raw water lines and systems is desirable. Salt or brackish water left standing in engine cooling and exhaust systems, refrigeration systems, heat exchangers, head and waste lines, pumps, and hoses will form hard deposits that can cause significant problems when the systems are restarted. The systems should be flushed with fresh water before such deposits are formed, and sealed with the fresh water in place. BlastItOut can supply fresh water to an engine cooling-water inlet thru-hull even when a vessel has been hauled. Start and run the engine for several minutes, forcing the raw water from all of the systems and replacing it with fresh water. When the engine is stopped, close the inlet thru-hull before the flow of water from BlastItOut is terminated. This keeps fresh water in the systems, lubricating them properly till the vessel is placed back into the water. This process should also be applied to refrigeration systems, air conditioning systems, heads, waste lines, pumps, hoses, and all other lines that normally contain raw water. If the system water pump is not self-priming, flushing may be performed without even running the system. Note: If a sealing stopper can be positioned in the sea strainer water outlet of the system, flushing can be performed from inside the vessel. Previous - Back to the Beginning |
